Bird of Paradise

Strelitzia reginae, commonly known as “Bird of Paradise”, originated in Africa near the Cape of Good Hope. It first flowered in Europe at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew. The species was then dedicated to the reigning Queen, Charlotte, who was the wife of King George III of the House of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. The long lasting, exotic, tropical blooms of the Bird of Paradise make them a favorite of the florist industry.
